#Why do we celebrate on jan 26th??

India's constitution came into effect on Republic Day, January 26, 1950. This date was chosen as it was the anniversary of Purna Swaraj Day, which was held on January 26, 1930.“Declaration of Independence of 1930” from the British Rule.

Republic Day celebration actually lasts for three days! The Beating Retreat is held at the end of the third day marking the end of Republic Day.


#Is there any calculations for our Indian flag?

Yes,Our national flag - is a clear calculated one.

India's national flag is a horizontal tricolor of deep saffron (kesaria) at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom in equal proportion. The ratio of the flag's width to its length is two to three. A navy-blue wheel in the center of the white band represents the chakra. Its design is that of the wheel which appears on the abacus of the Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka. Its diameter approximates to the white band's width and it has 24 spokes.

During 1950-1954, Republic Day celebrations were organised at different venues (like Irwin Stadium, Kingsway, Red Fort and Ramlila Grounds).It was only starting 1955 when the parade in its present form was organised at Rajpath.

Since 1950, India has been hosting head of state(Ministers) or government of another country as the state guest of honour for Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi.

ACTUALLY,The President of India addresses the Republic Day whereas; the Prime Minister addresses the Independence Day.

Republic day is chosen as the day to give away bravery awards to deserving candidates. The awards that are given away are Veer Chakra, Maha Veer Chakra, Param Veer Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Ashoka Chakra.

During The Beating Retreat, ‘Abide by Me’ is the song that is played to mark the end of the ceremony.It is one of the most popular tune that is played at the Republic day functions is .it is a Christian hymn, which was said to be Mahatma Gandhi's favourite.



#FACTS OF INDIAN CONSTITUTION





  • India's Constitution is the longest in the world. It has a total of 448 articles.
  • You definitely cannot read it in a single day.
  • It was drafted by a team comprising of intellectual personalities. The team included Alladi Krishnaswamy Iyer, Gopalswami Iyengar, TT. Krishnamachary, DP Khaitan, Sir Benegal, Kanyalal Munshi and Md Saadullah led by Dr. B.R. AmbedkarAt the time of commencement, the constitution had 395 articles in 22 parts and 8 schedules.
  • There are just two original copies of the Constitution in the country written in Hindi and English. They have been preserved in helium-filled cases in the Parliament of India. This constitution has been calligraphed and not printed. Such photo lithographic copies are in circulation and only 1000 copies have been written till date.

  • Writing the constitution was not simple. The Assembly gathered for 166 days that was spread over two years, 11 months and 18 days before the final version was formed. Yes, it was all hand-written and it was on the 26th of January that marked the celebration of Independence in its true sense
  • The Constitution came into a legal circulation at 10:18 AM on the 26th of January, 1950.
  • The 21 gun salute is the firing of arms and canons as a naval and military mark of honour. The salute is given while the President of India unfurls the National flag. 
  • Our leaders took the best aspects from other countries' constitutions. The concept of liberty, equality and fraternity came from the French constitution while the Five-Year Plans came from the USSR constitution.



#OBAMA FOR THE FIRST TIME



SEVERAL FIRST's in 2015 REPUBLIC DAY

NEW DELHI: The 66th Republic Day celebrations on Monday were marked by many firsts.

1) It witnessed the first ever march by an all-women contingent drawn from the army, navy and air force.


2) A US President was the Chief Guest at the Republic Day parade for the first time.


3) The recently acquired long-range maritime surveillance and anti-submarine aircraft P-8I and the advanced air fighter MiG-29 K made their maiden appearance.


4) President Pranab Mukherjee and Obama arrived in different motorcades, a departure from the standard practice of arriving together.


5) CRPF's anti-naxal special forces Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) marched on the Rajpath for the first time.
